Add a row in Google Sheets when a message is sent to the bot in Telegram

When a message is sent to the bot in Telegram, add a row in Google Sheets.

Start the 14-day trial, then find it under Templates → Library. It installs into the client you choose, switched off, with its checklist.

A message is sent to the bot in Telegram, within seconds

Every step, in order

When it happens in the first app, the step runs in the second, with the client’s own account.

A message is sent to the bot
A message to the bot, within seconds. A bot sends its messages to one place: one workflow per bot, and no other tool may use the same bot’s updates. In a group, the bot sees only commands, replies and mentions unless privacy mode is off (BotFather).
Add a row
Add a row at the bottom of a sheet, one value per column, left to right.

What each client fills in

Google Sheets: Spreadsheet ID
For example from the URL: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/<this>/edit
Google Sheets: Sheet (tab)
For example Sheet1

The accounts it needs

Each is the client’s own, stored encrypted and never copied between clients. Until one is added the client’s checklist shows it, and nothing runs.

  • Telegram

In Telegram, message @BotFather → /newbot → copy the token. Add the bot to the client’s group, or have the client message it once.

  • Google Sheets

In your own Google Cloud project: enable the Google Sheets API, then IAM & Admin → Service accounts → Create → Keys → Add key → JSON, and paste the file here. Then share each client sheet with the service account’s email (…@….iam.gserviceaccount.com) as an Editor. The account is yours; no Google review is needed.

After you install it

It lands switched off. The client’s checklist holds exactly this:

  1. Connect the client’s Telegram, for “A message is sent to the bot”
  2. Connect the client’s Google Sheets, for “Add a row”
  3. Fill in Google Sheets: Spreadsheet ID (For example from the URL: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/<this>/edit)
  4. Fill in Google Sheets: Sheet (tab) (For example Sheet1)
  5. Check the order of Google Sheets’s values, column by column against the client’s columns

Thrum is cooking.
