Send a template email in SendGrid when an order is paid in Shopify
When an order is paid in Shopify, send a template email in SendGrid.
Start the 14-day trial, then find it under Templates → Library. It installs into the client you choose, switched off, with its checklist.
Every step, in order
When it happens in the first app, the step runs in the second, with the client’s own account.
- An order is paid
- An order whose payment went through, checked every 5 minutes; once per order. The app needs the read_orders scope.
- Send a template email
- An email from one of the client’s SendGrid dynamic templates, its variables filled from the run. The template sets the subject and content.

- App stepSend a template email
What each client fills in
- SendGrid: From address
- For example hello@northside.example
- SendGrid: Template ID
- Email API → Dynamic Templates → the template: its ID.
The accounts it needs
Each is the client’s own, stored encrypted and never copied between clients. Until one is added the client’s checklist shows it, and nothing runs.
Only for a store that already has an admin-created custom app. In the client’s Shopify admin: Apps → Develop apps → the app: its Admin API scopes must include write_customers and read_orders; the token is under API credentials (shown once when it is made; if it is no longer shown, generate a new one).
SendGrid → Settings → API Keys → Create API Key with Mail Send access; for the triggers, also the Event Webhook settings permission (user.webhooks.event.settings.read and user.webhooks.event.settings.update), or Full Access. The From address must be a verified sender.
After you install it
It lands switched off. The client’s checklist holds exactly this:
- Connect the client’s Shopify, for “An order is paid”
- Connect the client’s SendGrid, for “Send a template email”
- Fill in SendGrid: From address (For example hello@northside.example)
- Fill in SendGrid: Template ID (Email API → Dynamic Templates → the template: its ID)
