Add a row in Google Sheets when a record is changed in Airtable

When a record is changed in Airtable, add a row in Google Sheets.

Start the 14-day trial, then find it under Templates → Library. It installs into the client you choose, switched off, with its checklist.

A record is changed in Airtable, within 15 minutes

Every step, in order

When it happens in the first app, the step runs in the second, with the client’s own account.

A record is changed
A row edited in a table, checked every 15 minutes; optionally only rows in a view (“A record enters Ready to quote”). Airtable says when a row changed only through a field: add a “Last modified time” field to the table (limit it to the columns that matter) and name it here. The token needs data.records:read.
Add a row
Add a row at the bottom of a sheet, one value per column, left to right.

What each client fills in

Google Sheets: Spreadsheet ID
For example from the URL: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/<this>/edit
Google Sheets: Sheet (tab)
For example Sheet1
Airtable: Base ID
For example appXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Airtable: Table
For example Leads
Airtable: Last modified time field
A field of type “Last modified time” in this table.

The accounts it needs

Each is the client’s own, stored encrypted and never copied between clients. Until one is added the client’s checklist shows it, and nothing runs.

  • Airtable

airtable.com/create/tokens → Create token → scopes data.records:write and data.records:read (lookups and the triggers) → add the client’s base → copy the token.

  • Google Sheets

In your own Google Cloud project: enable the Google Sheets API, then IAM & Admin → Service accounts → Create → Keys → Add key → JSON, and paste the file here. Then share each client sheet with the service account’s email (…@….iam.gserviceaccount.com) as an Editor. The account is yours; no Google review is needed.

After you install it

It lands switched off. The client’s checklist holds exactly this:

  1. Connect the client’s Airtable, for “A record is changed”
  2. Connect the client’s Google Sheets, for “Add a row”
  3. Fill in Airtable: Base ID (For example appXXXXXXXXXXXXXX)
  4. Fill in Airtable: Table (For example Leads)
  5. Fill in Airtable: Last modified time field (A field of type “Last modified time” in this table)
  6. Fill in Google Sheets: Spreadsheet ID (For example from the URL: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/<this>/edit)
  7. Fill in Google Sheets: Sheet (tab) (For example Sheet1)
  8. Check the order of Google Sheets’s values, column by column against the client’s columns
